Popular, natural-looking ways to replace missing teeth
Both implants and dentures are common solutions to replace missing teeth. Prior to treatment, our dentists will provide you with a clinical assessment to determine your needs and the best solution for your circumstances. Dental implants are fixed to your jawbone, whereas dentures are a removable plastic / metal framework. It’s also possible to have implant-supported dentures, where your dentures clip onto the dental implants.
Dental Implants
For natural looking teeth
As one of dentistry’s most successful surgical procedures, dental implants are closest you can get to natural looking teeth. They are also the longest lasting treatments, which allows patients to have naturally feeling teeth for a very long time. This longevity and their hard wearing nature makes them a great, cost effective investment.
A dental implant may be used to replace one lost tooth or several neighbouring teeth. In addition, you may use them to replace the entire missing arch of teeth. Instead of replacing these teeth individually, a small number of implants are placed, which are then fitted with a fixed bridge of replacement teeth.
How dental implants work
A dental implant is a technologically advanced plug to replace the root of your tooth. It is surgically implanted into the jaw by using state-of-the-art techniques and equipment, which are made from a super-strong material of biocompatible titanium that will eventually be bonded to your bone. Once this has happened, a prosthetic tooth can be screwed onto the implant.
Because implants fuse to your jawbone, they provide stable support for artificial teeth. dentures or bridges mounted to implants therefore won’t slip or move, creating a more natural look and feeling that conventional bridges or dentures offer. Once healed, your dental implant will feel just like a real tooth, that doesn’t impact your speech or the way you eat.

Dentures
Look good and feel great
Having dentures fitted is generally a quicker procedure than implants. Being custom-made, your dentist will first take an impression of your mouth to ensure your dentures fit snugly over your gums. Depending on how many teeth you’re missing, you’ll need full / complete dentures or a partial denture. Either way, your dentist will discuss the options with you in order for you to make an informed decision.
Complete Dentures
A full set which replace all of your upper or lower teeth.
If all your upper or lower teeth need to be replaced, full dentures will be fitted snugly over your gums and jawbone. The denture will usually be fitted as soon as your teeth are removed, which means you won’t be without teeth. When dentures fit properly, you shouldn’t necessarily need to use denture fixative (adhesive). Where a jawbone has shrunk significantly, adhesive may be the only way to help retain your dentures. If this is the case, your dentist will advise and discuss with you.
Partial Dentures
Which replace just 1 tooth or a few missing teeth.
Partial dentures are designed to fill in the gaps left by one or more missing teeth. Formed from either plastic, nylon or a metal plate – a number of false teeth can be attached. To hold them securely in place in your mouth, partial dentures usually clip onto some of your natural teeth via metal clasps, which can then be easily be unclipped and removed as needed.
